CBD stands for cannabidiol, and it is one of the most beneficial of all the cannabinoids found in cannabis strains. As most products sold in the US have a very low concentration of THC in them, CBD oil doesn’t get users high, but it provides most of the benefits that cannabis is known for.

In fact, the ability of CBD oil to bring down anxiety is universal in nature, meaning that almost anyone can use it without having to worry about the side effects that generally come with prescription anxiety meds. To understand how CBD brings down anxiety and why it is a better option than traditional anxiety meds, read on.

Affecting the ECS

All of us have an ECS, which is the natural endocannabinoid system present in every cell of the body. CBD affects the ECS directly, and since the ECS is connected to important functions such as memory, mood, appetite, pain, and, most importantly in this case, stress management, CBD helps to reduce stress and consequently, the anxiety that stems from it.

Cannabidiolsachieve this by boosting the calming effects of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) neurotransmitters that block certain nervous impulses, resulting in the person becoming calmer and happier.

Note that this effect has been established through studies and, therefore, CBD oil and other products really do improve the body’s natural stress management capabilities, along with improving the overall mood.

How Should One Use CBD for Controlling Anxiety?

CBDoil taken in any form will relieve anxiety, as long as you know how much CBD your body needs to attain the desired effect. Sabaidee has a good guide on exactly that, so check it out if you want to find the correct dosage necessary for you to tackle your anxiety. Having said that, some methods of taking CBD are more efficient for anxiety control than others, but it does depend quite a bit on what you are looking for, as well.

For example, if someone ingests their CBD oil with food or drink, the cannabidiol will have to pass through the liver, and that means the effects will last longer, but it will take a while for the results to be apparent.

On the other hand, vaping CBD will provide instant relaxation, but the effects won’t last long. For those who want to find a middle ground, taking CBD sublingually is probably the best method to adopt. A little bit of the dosage will be absorbed immediately through the mucous membrane under the tongue, while the rest of it will be ingested orally, making the dose appropriate for both immediate and long-term relief.

Is It Better than Benzos?

Benzodiazepines, which are commonly referred to as benzos, are a group of pharmaceutical anti-anxiety medications that are commonly prescribed by doctors if they feel the patient has PTSD, GAD, or any other stress-related anxiety disorder.

However, they are extremely addictive and smaller doses lose their efficacy after a few days or weeks of regular use. CBD, on the other hand, doesn’t have any of these problems. It isn’t addictive, nor is the human body known to develop a tolerance for it after a while, which makes CBD a better and more effective alternative to benzos by default.

Unfortunately, most US doctors either do not have the necessary knowledge or the legal power to prescribe CBD as a treatment option for anxiety disorders to their patients as of now. The good news is that a number of states have now opened up their doors to the medical use of cannabis-derived products and more and more physicians are beginning to consider cannabidiols as a better anti-anxiety medicine than benzodiazepines.

Note:Never suddenly stop taking your prescribed anti-anxiety medication,as this can cause severe withdrawal and other unwanted side effects.Talk with your doctor before using CBD oil with or without anxiety medication.
