Legitimate Work-From-Home Jobs for Spoonies

By October 1, 2018 Work From Home

Finding legitimate work-from-home jobs as a person with chronic illness can be daunting. There are SO MANY SCAMS out there, it’s ridiculous. It’s almost as exhausting trying to find a legitimate work-at-home job than it is to work one (maybe even more so).

Here are some legitimate jobs you can do at home. I did my very best to keep out anything that even looked like it could be suspect. If you find something that is, please comment below, and I will take it off the list!

Tutoring

Online tutors can help students in subjects they are experienced in. They do this by interacting with the students via Skype, webcam, or phone. Online tutors usually work one-on-one with students, helping them achieve their academic goals.

Website that offer work-from-home tutoring:

Tutor.com

From the site:

Our tutors are teachers, professors, adjuncts, PhD students, and industry professionals, who are all passionate about their areas of expertise and eager to help students learn. Our students range from kindergarten through college to adult learners. They share positive feedback about their online tutoring experience every day.

Our online tutoring platform makes connecting with students (and earning extra income!) simple, convenient, and flexible.”

Homework Tutoring.com

From the site:

We are currently seeking tutors to fill the following needs:

  • Homework Help:

  • Online Classes:
  • Instructors who can teach with web tools such as web cam and chat programs such as ICQ and MSN Messenger.

Tutor Hub.com (Europe)

Skooli.com

From the site:

Tutoring on Skooli is easy. Students can schedule sessions in advance or request instant help if you’re online. Tutor students one-on-one from anywhere with an internet connection using your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Once approved, tutors should be available to help new students. Occasionally inactive tutors need to be removed from the site in order make space for new active tutors and to make sure students get the help they need.”

Transcription Services

Transcribing is another legitimate work-from-home job where you listen to audio and transcribe that audio into the written word.

Here’s where to find home transcriptionist jobs:

AccuTranGlobal.com

From their site:

We are always interested in engaging with new contract transcribers, realtime stenographers and voicewriters.”

BirchCreekCommunications.com

From their site:

We have openings in our transcription department for high quality corporate transcriptionists, transcribing audio files for our corporate clients.”

QuickTate.com

You just need to go through a test process and get certified as a transcriber. Once certified you will be paid for the files you transcribe on an audio hour basis.”

Customer Service & Virtual Assistants

Believe it or not, companies are still looking for human virtual assistants. If you have experience in customer service, administrative assistance, or call center work, these work-at-home jobs may be what you’re looking for.

Here are some websites that offer work-from-home customer service and virtual assistant opportunities:

WorkingSolutions.com

From their website:

Unlike other companies, Working Solutions educates agents—at no cost to them—in a client’s business at Working Solutions University™.

In return, we ask agents to commit to work their programs as agreed. Get and give. Everyone benefits.”

Convergys.com

Sykes.com

WorldWide101.com

From their site:

If you have a strong professional background in administration, customer service, marketing, or project management, an interest in learning new skills, & a stable home-office environment we’d love to hear from you.”

Misc.

Some work-from-home companies offer what they call “micro tasks” that you can complete from virtually anywhere. Out of all of the websites that offered this, this was the most legitimate one I found.

ClickWorker.com

This all-in-one work-at-home solution is looking for writers, data entry clerks, copy editors, proofreaders, survey takers, mystery photographers, app testers, and translators.

Data Entry

Data entry is one of the easier work-from-home jobs to do, which is why I only have one website to recommend. A lot of people already snapped up these jobs years ago and are still working for the companies that hired them to this day!

LionBridge.com

From their site:

We are a growing group of people who chose to work in the “Cloud” on our own terms: Night or day; two hours today and six tomorrow; at home or in a café anywhere in the world.”

Chat & Email Support

If you have experience with chat and email support and/or remote technical support, here are some websites for you to check out:

Support.com

From their site:

Whether you become part of our corporate or technology specialist teams, choosing to grow with Support.com will afford you the opportunity to be part of a team that develops new, innovative ways to help our customers and world-class partners.”

Sutherland Global

From their website:

We empower and inspire our teams and leaders to simplify everyday tasks and interactions with a common goal: providing the best customer experience out there.

Want to help us support the world’s biggest and best companies in finding fun and new ways to interact with their customers? Join us.

We are Sutherland. Where people and process come together.”

Talk2Rep.com

This work-at-home website offers different opportunities such as appointment setting, email management, help desk services, technical support, inbound call center work, live chat services, market research, and mystery shopping services.

TtecJobs.com

From the site:

Looking for a reliable, fulfilling, flexible job that you can do from the comfort of your own home? TTEC@Home could be the perfect solution!

We’re looking for friendly and self-motivated individuals to join our team of associates working from their homes located across the U.S. and Canada.”

TheChatShop.com

From their site:

If you love interacting with people, learning and sharing your knowledge with others then joining our live chat team may well be for you. You’ll be representing our customers and working to drive each “chatter” through to a goal.”

Writing

VocalMedia.com

This is a pay-per-view website. In other words, you write for a niche, you market your articles on social media, and you get paid a portion of the ad proceeds. It’s pennies, but if you have a lot of content, your payout can really ad up!

CookingDetective.com

Are you a cooking expert, foodie, or product reviewer? You could earn up to $160 for an “Ultimate Guide” on cooking, kitchen appliances, and more.

WordGigs.com

From their site:

Right now hundreds of people are finding satisfaction and increased financial security as one of our paid freelance writers — and we are extending an invitation at this time to all qualified individuals. Why do we make this offer? Because our customer base is HUGE, and growing all the time — and that means a continual need for NEW WRITERS. Any person who lives in the U.S. who feels they would be qualified is invited to apply for a FREE writer’s account.

There is NO cost to you — at any time — That means nothing to buy, no “training course” or special “software” to purchase. Our business is not a freelance forum; you will never have to compete against other freelancers or submit bids in an effort to secure assignments. Our customers have your assignments WAITING FOR YOU.”

GetACopywriter.com

From the site:

We’re always looking for smart, talented copywriters to join our community. Please head over to the copywriter sign-up page to apply.”

Fiverr

This one is definitely a hit or miss. I’ve been on Fiverr for a while, and I do like it, but the marketplace is absolutely saturated, especially for writers!

The good news is, you can do so much more than writing on this website, and if you become well-known and highly-reviewed in your niche, you can earn a decent payout.

Note: This is really important. I have never actually received a payment from Fiverr because I put the money right back into other services I need on the website. In other words, I use this website to hire others to do work for me.

I still recommend it, but because I turn it right back around, I can’t say with 100% certainty that you receive a payout. I would do more research before starting.

Use Indeed to Your Advantage to Find Work-From-Home Jobs

If you’re not on Indeed.com, this is another great place to find legitimate work-at-home job opportunities.

In the box that says “What”, put the work you’re looking for. In the box that says “Where”, put ‘remote’. Then, have those jobs emailed to you. You’re much more likely to find work with a legitimate company this way!

Do Not Spend ANY Money to Work

A final but very important note: If you come across ANY “job” that asks you to spend even one dime of your money to work for them, walk away. It’s a scam.

I hope this list of genuine work-from-home jobs helps you to make a bit of an extra income if not a good, sustainable living.
